Amphibians
(1 hour)
Unique
characteristics make amphibians an interesting group to study, and students
will learn the specific characteristics of the amphibians. Amphibians may
be divided into three general groups: salamanders, toads and frogs. Students will learn to recognize the three groups by
observation of physical characteristics and habitat requirements.
Students will learn about the life cycles of the amphibians. Slides will be shown to familiarize students with the variety of
amphibians, which will include all amphibians found in Connecticut along with
the call sounds of local frog species. Live
specimens will be presented for the students to observe, and to touch.
Students will understand
what a salamander, toad or frog is, the differences and similarities, the
major phases of their life cycle and the general habitat in which they may be
found.
