Connecticut Wildlife Series
The
Connecticut Wildlife Series may be brought to your classroom or
taught at the Nature Center. The program taught at Barnes
Nature Center will allow for student exposure to a greater
variety of animals. Connecticut Reptiles and
Amphibians (1 Hour)
Students
will take an in depth look at these fascinating creatures by
observing live animals and study materials. Learn about
the reptile way of life with a focus on Connecticut's turtles
and snakes and the amphibian way of life with a look at the
world of tadpoles, frogs, toads, and salamanders. The
focus will be on Connecticut species.
Grades: 2 - 6; recommended 3 - 5

Connecticut
Birds
(1 Hour)
Discover the wonder of
beaks, feathers, feet, flight and feeding. Mounted specimens, study
materials, and a live bird (including a turkey and/or screech owl, depending on
availability) will help students learn how different lifestyles
affect how birds are shaped.
Grades: 2 - 6; recommended 3 - 5

Connecticut Mammals (1 Hour)
Learn how mammals can use their senses and other
unique characteristics in order to survive in a variety of habitats.
Mounted specimens, study materials, and a live rabbit will help students learn
how different characteristics affect the lifestyles of mammals.

Scheduling the
Connecticut Wildlife Series:
Teachers interested in
the Connecticut Wildlife Series may call the ELCCT office at (860) 589-8200 to
arrange a school visit by a representative of the ELCCT staff who will explain
the scope and content of the series. The Connecticut Wildlife Series
curriculum includes pre-trip and post-trip lesson materials that accompany each
of the three presentation topics. A sample of the curriculum is available
upon request.
