Wildlife Along The Trails (1.5 hours)

Using the outdoors as the classroom, students will be led along the trails of

the Preserve.  Utilizing planned and spontaneous stops, students will be shown examples of animal activity. Exploration on and off the trail will reveal  footprints, droppings, food sources, fur, feathers and other indications, which all tell a story of presence and activity. Rotten logs, stones and ground debris will be examined for signs of smaller mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The instructor will point out the not so easily seen signs of the forest, which also include the songs and rustlings of animals unseen but more often readily heard. Students will explore the preserve looking for animal tracks.   Students will learn where to find, and how to interpret the various signs of the forest; discover some of the resident animals on the preserve and learn to recognize the signs of animal activity.
