Land Acquisition
Our goal is to ensure that a
sufficient amount of the unprotected natural areas become protected in the
Bristol Region. By protecting additional lands, to form a network of continuous
green ways, the people of our area will continue to benefit from the positive
effects these lands currently have on our quality of life. These areas not only
provide valuable habitat for plant and animal life, but maintain the
environmental quality and esthetic values of our communities and also serve as
tremendous learning laboratories for our children and recreational opportunities
for families.
Secure New Preserves
Several new project areas are
underway to protect the entire South Mountain, Compounce Mountain, and
Southington Mountain. This area is the largest contiguous ridge remaining in
Connecticut. Several parcels need to be preserved in order to complete the
protection of this unique area. The Center will work to coordinate these land
acquisitions with other private and governmental agencies.
